Anheuser-Busch Ad Earns Emmy Nomination for Third Consecutive Year

July 17, 2006

ST. LOUIS (July 17, 2006) -- Budweiser’s epic Super Bowl advertisement “Clydesdale American Dream,” depicting a young Clydesdale that dreams of one day pulling the famous Budweiser hitch, earned a Creative Arts Emmy nomination for “Outstanding Commercial” from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

“‘Clydesdale American Dream’ does an excellent job of relating the proud heritage of the Budweiser Clydesdales while telling a heart-warming story,” said Marlene Coulis, vice president, Brand Management, Anheuser-Busch. “The Clydesdales have been immensely popular with consumers since they were introduced in 1933, and continue to represent Budweiser in the most positive light to millions of people each year at events across the country.”

In “Clydesdale American Dream,” a young Clydesdale is admiring the legacy of the company’s world-famous eight-horse hitch when he sees an empty harness. He noses his way into the harness and attempts to pull the heavy wagon, but to no avail. When the wagon finally starts to move, the horse demonstrates the pride of his peers in being an official Budweiser Clydesdale. Unbeknownst to the young colt, his parents are behind the wagon, nosing it along to assist their aspiring offspring.

The commercial was filmed in early January in California and first aired on Feb. 5, 2006, during the Super Bowl.

“Clydesdale American Dream” earned immediate praise from consumers. In Super Bowl advertising consumer polls, the ad was rated second by both The Wall Street Journal Online poll and USA TODAY’s Ad Meter. The ad was created by DDB-Chicago and directed by Joe Pytka.

“Clydesdale American Dream” is the third Emmy-nominated advertisement for Anheuser-Busch in as many years. The company’s “Applause” ad, depicting American troops returning home from service overseas being applauded by travelers in an airport terminal, was nominated for a Creative Arts Emmy in 2005. Two years ago, “Born a Donkey,” showing a donkey whose dreams of becoming a Budweiser Clydesdale are finally realized, was nominated.

Nominations for the 58th Annual Primetime and Creative Arts Emmy Awards for the period of June 1, 2005 through May 31, 2006, were announced recently by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences from the Leonard H. Goldenson Theatre in North Hollywood, Calif. The Creative Arts Emmy Awards will be presented Aug. 19 at the Shrine Auditorium and televised tape-delayed on E!, with the Primetime Emmy Award presentations televised live on NBC on Aug. 27. The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences was founded in 1946 just one month after network television was born. It is a nonprofit organization devoted to the advancement of telecommunications arts and sciences and to fostering creative leadership in the telecommunications industry.
